KYBELLA (deoxycholic acid) is a prescription injectable drug used in adults to improve the appearance and profile of moderate to severe sub mental fat below the chin- also called “Double Chin”.  This Sub-Mental fat is caused by genetics, the aging process, or by weight gain.  KYBELLA is FDA approved only for submental fat under the chin.

KYBELLA is right for you if you are self-conscious of fullness under your chin which makes you look older or heavier than you actually are, you do not want to have surgery, and you eat well and exercise, but the fullness does not go away.

The active ingredient of KYBELLA is synthetic deoxycholic acid.  Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in breakdown and absorption of body fat.  KYBELLA is neither human or animal.  KYBELLA is a non allergic synthetic drug.  When injected into the skin, KYBELLA destroys fat cells, resulting in a noticeable reduction in fullness under the chin.  Once destroyed, these cells can no longer store or accumulate fat. Further treatments are not expected, once you reach your desired aesthetic goal.

KYBELLA Treatment can only be administered by a KYBELLA trained Healthcare Specialist.  At each treatment, you will receive multiple small injections under your chin.   The injection process takes about 15-20 minutes to complete.  Since everyone’s chin profile is different, the number of treatments needed varies from patient to patient.  Your KYBELLA Specialist will help determine your treatment needs with you.  The exact amount of Kybella medication and the number of treatments needed will depend on the amount of fat you have under your chin and the contour and profile you desire. Each KYBELLA treatment is at least 1 month apart and the average treatment cycle is 3-4 treatments.

After KYBELLA treatment you should expect moderate to marked swelling at the treatment site.  There will also be redness, probable bruising, and areas of hardness and numbness in the treated area.  These side effects are temporary, usually lasting 7-14 days.  Side effects which are more serious in nature can include nerve injury in the jaw area, which can cause a temporary uneven smile, facial muscle weakness or difficulty swallowing.  These symptoms can last 1-3 months typically, and in very rare instances, even longer.
