Eyeliner

Permanent eyeliner is meant to enhance, not replace, conventional use of eyeliner.  Permanent eyeliner should be applied in moderation.  You can augment your permanent lines for more drama when you desire.  Pigment cannot be extended beyond the eyelash lines because your tissue in that area cannot keep pigment in place, and it can travel down your cheeks.  I use only black “carbon” pigment for eyeliner procedures.  This assures that there will not be pigment allergy.  I do not use colors other than this and everyone I apply eyeliner to gets this one pigment for safety reasons.  If you are unable to remove your eye makeup before your appointment, I will do so for you, during the numbing process.

Your eyelids may swell slightly during the procedure.  The amount of swelling depends on your skin sensitivity and on how well your skin accepts the pigment.  Taking an antihistamine the night after your eyeliner procedure can sometimes help minimize the swelling.  Ice packs after are sometimes helpful, but not necessary.   Your eyeliner will look thicker and darker to you right after your procedure because of your eye puffiness and stain of the pigment on your skin.  The color will become less intense in 3-5 days.

Contact wearers will need to remove their contacts during the procedure.  You may not wish to reinsert them until the following day.  Most often, this is not a problem; however, bring a pair of glasses with you.  Do not curl your eyelashes for two days prior to your procedure appointment.

Patients using Latisse should stop use 2 weeks before an eyeliner procedure.  Latisse helps eyelashes grow by adding blood supply to the eyelid.  This vasodilation will cause bleeding and bruising to the lid with a tattoo procedure.  Wait 2-3 weeks post treatment before resuming applications.

You will be scheduled for a touch-up appointment, at no extra charge, 6-8 weeks after your initial treatment.  You have a three-month period in which to get your touch-up and complete your procedure. There will be a charge for touch-ups, at the brochure rates, after your two initial appointments.  Any touch-up for work not originally done in this office will be charged at the full fee, regardless of how much, or how little work needs to be done.

Eyeliner After-Care

Do not curl your lashes or use mascara for two days following your procedure. When you resume use of mascara, use a new tube. This also applies to your touch-up appointment.

Remember, you have an open wound for 24-48 hours.  No sunbathing, sauna, jacuzzi, tanning booth, or swimming in chlorinated or salt water until the treated area is healed.  Do not use your usual creams and moisturizers on the treated area until it has healed.  Most products have additives that will fade a new tattoo. Use Vaseline or Aqua-fore, applied with a q-tip, to avoid crusting and to add moisture to the lids. When showering, keep your eyes away from direct shower splash for one week.

Minor signs and symptoms of infection could include but are not limited to: redness, swelling, warmth of the treated area, and tenderness at the procedure site.  These are also normal results from the treatment.  Major signs and symptoms of infection could include elevated body temperature, purulent drainage from the procedure site, red streaks radiating from the procedure site toward the heart, or pain radiating from the site.  These are symptoms that indicate you should seek immediate medical care.

Do not rub, traumatize, or pick at the treated area.  If crust appears, DO NOT pick or peel it off. The pigment can come off with the scab.  You may soak with a wet washcloth and gently remove crust with a q-tip.

You will be scheduled for a touch-up appointment 6-8 weeks after your initial procedure. Remember that your eyeliner tattoo is not completed until your touch-up has been done.
